Merck in Big Trouble

A federal judge has informed lawyers jam-packed into a courtroom in New Orleans that the number of people suing Merck & Co over the Vioxx fiasco could amount to around 100,000.

Estimations are that this case alone could cost Merck $18,000,000,000.

Sometimes, when the person or entity is so deserving of being sued, I just love the litiginous society that we live in.

This case will further open the eyes of the pill popping public to the chicanery that lies behind Big Pharma’s loosely labelled ‘research’ and 'trials'.

Every exposure of Big Pharma’s utter indifference to the wellbeing of the consumer will make it harder and harder for psychiatrists to push their drugs onto an unsuspecting public.

The exposure of the manipulation of truth endemic in drug ‘trials’ will also help to bring into question the credibility of Big Pharma in other cases to come.

I smell greater independant oversight of Big Pharma in the near future... hopefully, unlike the FDA, one that manages to stay at arm’s length.
