Evelyn Pringle-TeenScreen

An extract from another great article by Evelyn Pringle at:
Subject: TeenScreen

According to Dr Nathaniel Lehrman, MD, former Clinical Director, Kingsboro Psychiatric Center, Brooklyn NY; former Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Albert Einstein and SUNY Downstate Colleges of Medicine. “It is impossible, on cursory examination, or on the basis of the Program's brief written screening test, to detect suicidality or "mental illness," however we define it. Indeed, the fears evoked by the process of seeking out mental illness can create psychiatric symptoms,“

“Searching out those "illnesses," rather than relying on the troubled to seek help for themselves, violates the privacy of those in whom these "illnesses" are sought,” Lehrman warns, “for those youngsters whose screenings supposedly reveal such "mental illness," the major treatment will then be drugs.”

“Aren't eight million kids on ritalin enough” said Dr Lehrman?

Its gotten so bad, that Dr Lehrman notes a need for public awareness of the extent to which the American medical profession is being prostituted by the drug companies, “In no other medical specialty has that prostitution reached the depths it has in my specialty, psychiatry,” he added.

Mothers Who Kill

Group Says Antidepressants Can Induce Violence and Suicide

Contact: Ann Blake Tracy of the International Coalition for Drug Awareness, 801-209-1800 or (additional contacts listed below)

The following was released on Thursday this week by the Prozac Survivors Support Group and the International Coalition for Drug Awareness:

-- As Dyer, Indiana woman stands accused of murdering her children while on an antidepressant, group accuses FDA of withholding violent and suicidal effects of antidepressants for more than 14 years.

Mrs. Bonnie Leitsch, founder of "Prozac Survivors Support Group" (PSSG), has joined with Dr. Ann Blake Tracy, Ph.D., founder of the International Coalition for Drug Awareness (ICFDA) in calling for immediate federal action to warn the public that antidepressants not only can induce suicidality in adult patients -- but also acts of violence. Just last week, 30-year-old Indiana mother Magdalena Lopez was charged with murdering her two sons, aged 2 and 9. According to relatives and neighbors, she had been taking an antidepressant.

In June, the FDA issued its second warning that adults taking antidepressants should be monitored for suicidal ideation and worsening depression.

Mrs. Leitsch says that it is unconscionable that new mothers are being prescribed drugs that have been known to induce psychosis, violence and suicidality for more than a decade. "In 1991, there was evidence of 500 deaths associated with antidepressants presented to an FDA Psychopharmacological Drugs Advisory Committee hearing investigating Prozac," says Mrs. Leitsch. "The failure to issue the warning has led to more suicides, homicides, school shooters and mothers killing their own children." PSSG has the original film footage from the 1991 FDA hearings, where dozens of testimonies were given by family members of those who had either killed themselves, or loved ones, or individuals who had attempted suicide which they directly attributed to taking an antidepressant.

Dr. Ann Blake Tracy, author of Prozac: Panacea or Pandora? says, "These are extremely dangerous drugs that should have been banned, as similar drugs were in the past. Federal investigations into the violence-inducing effects of these drugs are long overdue." For over 15 years Dr. Tracy has been an outspoken critic of SSRI antidepressant drugs and has testified as an expert witness in numerous court cases involving such drugs. "The scientific evidence behind this has been out there for decades. All anyone ever had to do was read it," she says.

Magdalena Lopez joins a long list of women who have murdered their children while under the influence of antidepressants known to cause violence, psychosis, and suicide in adults.

Here are just a handful of similar cases of mothers taking antidepressants who killed their children:

-- Annie Mae Haskew smothered her 10-week-old son in October of 2002. Before the murder she had been diagnosed with postpartum depression and had been taking antidepressants.

-- Andrea Yates drowned her five children, aged 6 months to 7 years in the family bathtub on Nov. 22, 2004, while taking two antidepressants Effexor and Remeron, both had been given at maximum dose.

-- Dena Schlosser killed her 10-month-old infant daughter in November 2004 by severing her baby's arms. She had been diagnosed with postpartum depression, hospitalized and prescribed psychiatric "medication for depression" before the crime.

-- Mary Ellen Moffitt suffocated her 5-week-old daughter and herself July 26, 2004. Before this she had been diagnosed with postpartum depression and had been taking the antidepressant Paxil.

-- Emiri Padron smothered her baby daughter in her crib on June 22, 2004 and then stabbed herself twice in the chest. Emiri was receiving psychiatric treatment before the incident and investigators found the antidepressant Zoloft in the apartment where the crime took place.

-- Mine Ener used a kitchen knife to cut the throat of her 6-month-old daughter on Aug. 4, 2003, after being diagnosed with postpartum depression and taking "medication" for the condition.

Mrs. Leitsch says that the FDA's claim that it could take a year to review the suicide adverse effects of antidepressant drugs is negligent. "They must warn the public that not only can the drugs include suicide -- but heinous acts of violence -- mothers killing their own children, or children killing other children. Many of the school shooters were being prescribed these drugs, including Eric Harris, Kip Kinkel and the latest school shooter from Red Lake, Minnesota, Jeff Wiese. How many more drug-induced murders must we have before someone takes notice? Before the government takes action?"

Mrs. Leitsch presented Sen. Grassley with a video of key testimony from the September 20, 1991 FDA hearings demonstrating that the FDA was informed of antidepressant dangers 14 years ago. "Today, 36 million Americans are taking the drugs and deserve to know the truth," said Mrs. Lietsch.

A Scientologist Perspective
From Doyle Mills of Clearwater, Fla., a member of the Church of Scientology.

"I am an American and a fervent defender of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. I am also a Scientologist. Scientology holds the distinction of being the only major world religion to have been founded by an American, L. Ron Hubbard, born in Nebraska in 1911. Of this I am very proud.

"Psychiatry, the movement which masquerades as a science and a branch of medicine, is Germanic in origin. The different political realities of the United States versus 19th-century Europe can be observed when examining psychiatry.

"Psychiatry is a pseudo-science. Not one of their 'disorders' has been proven to exist in actual fact. There is no known 'chemical imbalance.' Yet, the authoritarian message that they somehow know what is best for you is promoted every second of every day on television, radio, magazines — every outlet. This is propaganda at its worst, with advertising budgets running into the billions every year.

"That alone should be enough for any of us to look at psychiatry with a skeptical eye. Yet, the full story is even worse. It is my contention that psychiatry is incompatible with any free society.

"Psychiatry's basis of belief is that no one is responsible for his own behavior. A person's happiness, sadness, and fear are all the result of brain chemicals, out of the individual's control. When someone does something wrong, according to psychiatry, it isn't his fault — it was his ADHD, his OCD, a chemical imbalance. A criminal trial routinely features a paid psychiatrist explaining that the person is 'innocent' because of insanity.

"The certainty that each person is responsible for his own condition and his own actions is the very cornerstone of society, especially in the United States.

"The definition of a Declarationist includes this line:
"'To enjoy the right of political self-government, men must be capable of personal self-government — the virtue of self-control. A people without decency cannot be secure in its liberty."

"Psychiatry declares that half of us are now or will be 'mentally ill' at some point in our lives and are not 'capable of self government.' Nothing even remotely like this has ever been proven. Rather, it is only accepted and promoted as truth by psychiatry in order to justify usurping an individual's rights and forcing psychiatric treatments on patients.

"Psychiatry's treatments degrade the individual and endanger all of us. Psychiatric drugs are known to cause violence and suicide in persons who were not like that before the drugs. That's not me speaking; that's from the Black Box warning that the FDA requires on all antidepressant drugs. Other psych treatments (shock treatment, lobotomies, ice baths) simply render the individual quiet, and incapable of fighting back. The victims are also thereafter incapable of the 'pursuit of happiness.'

"When a Scientologist speaks out against psychiatry, the billion-dollar propaganda machine works hard to throw out lies
about Scientology and Scientologists in hopes that we will fear speaking out. No, unfortunately for the enslavers, we may be the only truly free people on Earth. We will not shut up and we will not go away.

"Also, just to rapidly clear up a few misconceptions: I have donated money to Scientology but every single penny has been completely voluntary; when I have a physical illness, I go to a medical doctor, just like everyone else; you really can be a member of any other religion while also being a Scientologist. Find out for yourself what Scientology is at or

"As a Scientologist I have learned the harsh reality of religious discrimination. I have great respect for the religions of the world and have friends who follow nearly every faith. Along with Jewish, Catholic, and Muslim persons, I am on the board of directors of the Pave the Way Foundation, an inter-religious group which works to establish cooperation between religions by gestures of goodwill. For example, we took over 100 Jewish leaders to meet with Pope John Paul II to thank him for all he has done for the Jewish people.

"The media has a field day reporting a 'conflict' between Scientology and psychiatry. There may be some truth to this. I am personally, vehemently opposed to psychiatry at it is practiced today. Yet the real conflict, seldom reported, is between psychiatry and individuals, and between psychiatry and the society. Psychiatry tramps on individual rights, parental rights, and claims scientific 'authority' to do so.

"When a Scientologist speaks up about psychiatry, especially a prominent Scientologist like Tom Cruise, the 'conflict' is plastered all over the media. The rest of what we do goes largely unnoticed by the media. Yet, the fight against psychiatry is only 1/1000 of what Scientology and Scientologists are doing. Getting rid of psychiatry is not our main goal and function.

"Working with individuals and like-minded groups, we are working to achieve the aims of Scientology, as written by L. Ron Hubbard, who said: 'A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where man is free to rise to greater heights, are the aims of Scientology.'"

The Legislated Drugging of the American People

The Legislated Drugging of the American People
by Nancy Levant

First, the facts: according to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), “Senators Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) introduced the "Project BioShield II Act of 2005" (S. 975) on April 29, 2005. The bill builds upon the first BioShield bill, which was signed into law on July 21, 2004, and authorized $5.6 billion over 10 years to encourage pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to develop bioterrorism countermeasures. BioShield II would provide additional liability protections for firms creating vaccines or drugs that could cause injuries. No action has been scheduled on the bill yet.”

“At a May 11 hearing, Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.), chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee on Bioterrorism Public Health Preparedness, said he would take into consideration both S. 975 and S. 3 in crafting his version of BioShield II. S. 3, introduced by Senator Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and includes provisions similar to those in S. 975 that encourage companies to develop bioterrorism countermeasures.”

”The President signed the Project BioShield Act (P.L. 108-276) into law on July 21, following final approval by the House on July 14. The legislation authorizes funds to encourage pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to develop bioterrorism countermeasures.”

“First proposed in the 2003 State of the Union address, Project BioShield provides $5.6 billion over ten years. The final bill guarantees this funding cannot be diverted for other purposes, but Congress retains discretion over the program's annual appropriations, such as the $890 million approved for FY 2004.”

“Senators Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) are said to be working on "BioShield II," a bill that will provide liability protections for firms creating vaccines or drugs that could cause injuries.”

“Provided under the proposed Department of Homeland Security FY 2005 budget is $2.5 billion for Project BioShield, three times the $890 million provided by Congress in FY 2004. The conference report of the FY 2004 Homeland Security Appropriations bill was signed by the President October 1 (P.L. 108-90) and included $890 million for Project BioShield.”

"Project BioShield," first announced in the President's State of the Union address in January, is designed to expand and speed up the availability of vaccines and treatments to combat potential bioterrorism agents. Under the plan, the federal government would provide $6 billion over 10 years to create and produce vaccines and treatments and would guarantee drug companies a buyer for these products. In addition, the Food and Drug Administration would have the authority to expedite the approval process for vaccines and treatments.”

So, let’s get this straight: Project BioShield encourages, expands, and speeds up new business for big pharma, and then guarantees big pharma that they will absolutely have buyers for new drugs if they make them. $2.5 billion from Homeland Security plus another $890 million for Project BioShield, which guarantees the sale of any and all vaccines big pharma comes up with in the next 10 years.

And then there is the New Freedom Initiative on Mental Health, which initially mandates mental health screening and enforced drugging of American’s children and pregnant women, but hopes to mandate enforced drugging of all American people.

Next, lets look at the Medical Emergency Health Powers Act (note the word “Powers”). According to a report from the Heritage Institute, “Model State Emergency Health Powers Act, upon the declaration of a public health emergency, governors and public health officials would be empowered to:

1. Force individuals suspected of harboring an "infectious disease" to undergo medical examinations.

2. Track and share an individual's personal health information, including genetic information.

3. Force persons to be vaccinated, treated, or quarantined for infectious diseases.

4. Mandate that all health care providers report all cases of persons who harbor any illness or health condition that may be caused by an epidemic or an infectious agent and might pose a "substantial risk" to a "significant number of people or cause a long-term disability." (Note: Neither "substantial risk" nor "significant number" are defined in the draft.)

5. Force pharmacists to report any unusual or any increased prescription rates that may be caused by epidemic diseases.

6. Preempt existing state laws, rules and regulations, including those relating to privacy, medical licensure, and--this is key--property rights.

7. Control public and private property during a public health emergency, including pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, nursing homes, other health care facilities, and communications devices.

8. Mobilize all or any part of the "organized militia into service to the state to help enforce the state's orders."

9. Ration firearms, explosives, food, fuel and alcoholic beverages, among other commodities.

10. Impose fines and penalties to enforce their orders.”

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it looks like our drug culture has gone politically mainstream and very Fascist. I see enforced, legislated drugging and a legislated guarantee of the sale of drugs that aren’t even developed, AND a legislated guarantee to speed up the approval process for unknown drugs. Just how does one speed up that process?

Let’s add more to our connecting dots. The U.N. – the group best known for their observation of the world’s “ethnic cleansing” armies, has called for global population reductions. The U.N., who sends in “peacekeepers” to stand and watch as millions of innocents are brutally chopped to bits, poisoned, and slaughtered.

And how about those mercury-laced vaccines that poisoned a generation or two of children with Autism. And how about the mass-marketed drug, Viagra, and its link to blindness. And how about the psychotropic drugs that have increased teen suicide numbers in the U.S. by more than double.

I also can’t help but think about how pleasant it must be for our public schools to enjoy Medicare funding in exchange for finding children in need of enforced drugging, and how nicely those universal mental health screenings will boost the annual operating budgets of public schools.

And then there is TMAP – The Texas Medical Algorithm Project. TMAP was marketed as a “Model Program.” However, TMAP is far more than a program. It is a cover device. TMAP combines the newest and most expensive and untested psychotropic drugs under one umbrella, and then gets access to captive populations, like prisoners and school children, to test their new intellect and mood-manipulating drugs. Funny thing how the president’s New Freedom Initiative recommends the TMAP model of matching symptoms to the TMAP new-fangled drug concoctions. Hmmm.

And TMAP comes with a hitch. When states adopted the TMAP model, doctors were required to prescribe the TMAP drugs over and above the older and thoroughly test psychotropic drugs. How sad for the children who in massive numbers found horrible, suicidal, and deadly side effects from TMAP drugs. Prozac, Zoloft, Adderall, Buspar, Wellbutron, Zyban, Paxil, and many, many others - have you noticed the non-stop, televised prime-time advertising of the TMAP drugs for the last 3 years? Hmmm.

TMAP is a big pharma marketing scheme that was implemented with the help of politicians who received big pharma campaign funding. It is ONE of the most evil, most unconscionable wheeling and dealing, to date. And now, add to all the above Project BioShield II, which gives TMAP model-like powers to include “enforced” vaccines of experimental drugs. We are being mass-drugged as a point and mandate of public-private partnership.

There is no denying the legislated facts and corruption behind the pharmaceutical industry and its funding of politically complicit monsters. If you own stock in big pharma, you are poisoning and killing, and you, too, are complicit.

American citizens, where is the outcry? Where are you? What more evidence do you need? And if you think that “illegal drugs” are unrelated to government policy, then you are again blinded by liars and thieves. Illegal drugs are tied to the teeth to global weapons, false dictatorships and governments, and to internal and orchestrated terrorism upon unknowing people.

Our power is in our combined wealth. Don’t support the public schools. Don’t support big pharma. And you can bet your bottom dollar that CAFTA-CODEX connection is backed by big pharma, as well. Wake up. Please, America, wake up. Mass corruption surrounds you at every level and around every corner. We are living in the land of lies.

Court Ordered Shock Treatment Severely Limited in New York State

ALBANY, NY -- (07/16/2005; 1700)(EIS) -- Some human rights activists are celebrating a significant victory with the release of an "ECT Position Statement" by the New York State Office of Mental Health that restricts the ability and sets rigid conditions prior to an application of court ordered "Electronic Convulsive Therapy (ECT)". The document was presented to members and friends of the Mental Patients Liberation Alliance on July 15, 2005 as they were preparing to enter into the eighth day of a vigil and fast at the State Capitol Building in Albany, New York.

A group of people had gathered in Albany on July 8th to begin a vigil and to fast and/or pray until the "death of forced shock treatment". The event marked The Alliance's 25th Annual Bastille Day Celebration/ Demonstration and was part of a simultaneous event coordinated through MindFreedom, an international coalition that represents over 100 human rights organizations that work to call attention to the failures of mental health systems.

Activists in New York State were particularly concerned with recent legislation that extended the State's Involuntary Outpatient Commitment Law [MHL 9.60] (Kendra's Law) for five years. Under that law, people who have broken no criminal or civil law may be court-ordered to receive invasive psychiatric drugs or shock treatmentover their objection.

An outcome report on the past three years the law was in effect was released this spring by the State Office of Mental Heath. That report states that nearly 4,000 people in New York State were ordered to receive "Assisted Community Treatment". Approximately 80% of these people had no history of violence or alleged violence - well below the numbers of the "general population". While the report does not address the use of court-ordered shock treatment through this "community support service", information provided by the Office of Mental Health indicates that 33 people in New York State received court-ordered shock treatment in 2003, and 84 ! people received court-ordered shock in 2004. These are the only years that numbers are available.

No report has effectively measured the incidence of "forced treatment by coercion" that results in "voluntary consent" to drugging and shock. Experiences by activists and advocates, as well as the reports to them by many others involved with the mental health system, make clear that coercion is rampant within that system. Coercion includes the manipulation or disregard of factual information, undue and/or misguided pressure on an individual to agree to a course of action, jeopardy of selected services such as housing, persuasion to comply with a course of action backed by a threat of securing compliance court-ordered, and otherwise compelling "consent" under duress.

The ECT Position Paper by the New York State Office of Mental Health provides in part that no person receiving voluntary treatment can receive shock involuntarily. It also provides that an advance directive created when an individual's capacity was not questioned will be honored when that person's capacity is under scrutiny. A personal directive forbidding shock, therefore, will be honored even when the current capacity of an individual is in question.

The members and friends of The Alliance understand that this victory is an "incremental advance" realized after 30 years of work towards their effort to stop forced treatment.

So Pathetic it is Almost Touching

In amongst the plethora of stories of psychiatric perversion from around the world I found the following so pathetic as to be almost touching.

A 67 year old psychiatrist from Toronto, Canada has been found guilty of touching and making sexual comments towards three of his female patients.

To one of the females he remarked that she looked like a “piece of ass”. To another he repeatedly asked to see her breasts and touched her on the knee several times.

Dr Lawrence Gotkind was sniggered at a lot and suspended from practice for four months.

How Public Schools Coerce Parents
How Public Schools Coerce Parents Into Giving Mind-Altering Drugs To Their Children

Despite the potentially dangerous side-effects of Ritalin, public school authorities now pressure many parents to give Ritalin to their children so these kids won’t “act up” in school.

[ClickPress, Thu Jul 21 2005] Despite the potentially dangerous side-effects of Ritalin, public school authorities now pressure many parents to give Ritalin to their children so these kids won’t “act up” in school.

Naturally, most parents don’t want to drug their children just because they are unruly, bored in class, or high-spirited. However, compulsory attendance laws force parents to send their children to public schools. Just as school authorities resort to compulsion to get their students by force, so they apply the same compulsion against children and their parents to pressure parents into giving Ritalin to their kids.

How do schools pressure parents? They threaten to expel the child, hold the child back a grade, put the child into a special-education class, or threaten the parents with prosecution for child abuse.

Here’s one parent’s story:

"Hello, my name is Bobby B. [last name withheld for privacy], and that little boy you see above [in a picture in the article] . . . is my pride and joy. The picture was taken on Halloween when he was 5 years old and he was already on Ritalin. He was put on Ritalin because the local school district informed us that if we did not put him on medication he would be removed from school. In fact his first year was a nightmare from the start."

"Kindergarten is supposed to be fun and enjoyable for the child. However, Christopher had the teacher from hell and she made his life miserable. He could do nothing right and at the end of the school year she was going to flunk him out of her class. . . . Christopher’s teacher thought he was nothing but trouble, too hyperactive, too hard to manage and she wanted nothing to do with him. This was the start of our own nightmare and our introduction to Ritalin and ADD. For the next 8 years our little boy was on this medication because without it he would not be allowed to continue in our public school system. . . ."

"My wife volunteers at the school in the office area weekly, and she has told me of the hundreds of kids that are on Ritalin and other medication. They line up every day to get their medication in order for them to stay in school, and attempt to do their work in a drug-induced state."

"About 12 months ago we were told to put Christopher on Adderall and that this medication would work better and would last longer. The side effects were the same, dehydration, loss of appetite, growth limitations and violent mood swings, and the fact is that no one knows what the long term effects on your children’s health will be. We did as the Doctor advised and he has been on Adderall since."

"Any time Christopher has a bad day in school, the teachers want to know if he took his medication for the day. You see, once a child is labeled ADD or hyperactive, it stays with them, and it’s locked in the teachers’ minds. Thus if the child has a problem, it must be that he/she did not take their medication. I am sure this goes on in public schools all over this country and parents like us have no choice or our choices are very limited. If you want your child to stay in school, Ritalin or Adderall is their solution to any and all behavioral problems."

Here we have an example of school authorities not tolerating normal children who might be having a “bad day” or want to express their anger about something. As adults, we all have such bad days and we all get angry occasionally. But because public schools are like mini-prisons that require “order” and “discipline” to function, children are expected to conform to the rules. They are not allowed to have “bad days” or express anger. Hence school authorities must pressure parents to drug these children to make them passive.

Christopher’s horror story is repeated again and again in public schools across the country. Parents, if public school authorities are pressuring you to give potentially dangerous, mind-altering drugs to your child, alarm bells should be going off in your head. You should immediately consider taking your child out of public school and homeschooling him.

Too Late For Some

Anti-depressant warning too late for some
King Features Syndicate

Some psychiatrists may have been shocked by the Food and Drug Administration's recently revised labeling for antidepressants: "Adults being treated with antidepressant medication, particularly those being treated for depression, should be watched closely for worsening of depression and for increased suicidal thinking or behavior."

This warning follows a similar one directed toward children and adolescents.

These cautions are doubly troubling because they are long overdue. For years the FDA has reassured physicians and patients that drugs like Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft would not make people worse or lead them to suicide.

Shortly after Prozac was introduced, however, we heard from a bereaved father about the death of his daughter, who was given Prozac for an eating disorder: "One month later, after taking this medication, she committed suicide by hanging herself. What was so strange about this unsuspected action was that she was not behaving like a person who was depressed or suicidal."

When we first heard from him in the late 1980s, we checked published reports of Prozac side effects and found nothing to suggest this could be a drug reaction. In 1990, however, a case report was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry. Harvard psychiatrists described six patients who suddenly developed "intense violent suicidal preoccupation after 2-7 weeks of fluoxetine (Prozac) treatment."

When we asked the drug company and the FDA about this report, we were told that depressed people sometimes commit suicide and that the drug was not to blame.

Over the past 15 years we have heard of many other instances in which people became preoccupied with harming themselves or others after starting on an antidepressant.

A man taking Zoloft woke in the middle of the night with a strong urge to kill himself. A woman reported having wild thoughts while on Prozac about ramming her car into other cars and getting a gun to kill an irritating co-worker.

One reader shared this sad story: "I am convinced that Zoloft caused my cousin to kill himself even though he was strongly opposed to suicide. He saw Zoloft advertised on television and asked his family doctor about it.

"The night my cousin told me he had started taking Zoloft, I immediately looked up the drug in your book The People's Pharmacy. I became alarmed when I read this sentence: 'Family members should help monitor people on Zoloft for suicidal thoughts or self-destructive behaviors. The doctor must be notified immediately in such cases.'

"I didn't know what to do. I didn't feel I could tell my cousin to stop taking the Zoloft. I regret to this day that I didn't call him back immediately and read that warning to him.

"One week later, he went out to check on his cattle. When he didn't return, his wife and sons went looking for him. They found him dead under his favorite tree. He had shot himself in the head with his father's double-barreled shotgun."

We wonder how many families have had to suffer like this one.

ECT Survivor Wins Damages

First ever verdict in favor of electroshock victim Jury sides with victim, awards $635,000
A South Carolina woman has become the first survivor of ECT (“electroconvulsive therapy” or “shock treatment”) to prevail in a court of law.

Because of an intensive course of shock in 2000, Peggy S. Salters lost all memory of the previous 30 years of her life. She could not recall her husband of three decades or the births of her three children. Though she’d held a Masters of Science degree and had had a long career in nursing, she could not return to work as she no longer possessed the skills or knowledge of nursing.

Ms. Salters sued Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina as well as the three doctors responsible for her care. The jury found that her memory loss and cognitive impairment (which are demonstrable symptoms of brain damage) was due to ECT. While the jury could not return a verdict against two of the doctors, they found referring psychiatrist Eric Lewkowiez guilty of malpractice and awarded Salters $635,177 in compensation for her inability to work. Palmetto Baptist settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Ms. Salters was represented by attorney Mark Hardee.

Despite the average person-in-the-street's belief that shock treatment stopped at the same time that Jack Nicholson, as the character McMurphy, died in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, it is still widely used. For example, more than 100,000 American citizens are given ECT each year and two-thirds of these are women. It is currently is an estimated $5 billion a year industry in the United States.

But ask a psychiatrist today about how the mind or brain works and you will discover he doesn’t know. Ask him about how ECT “works” and he will also tell you he doesn’t know, that he isn’t an “expert on electricity.” However, he does have endless theories about it. These include:

“Is a destructive process that somehow makes for improvement. ”
“It yields a beneficial vegetative effect, ”
“Yields the unconscious experience of dying and resurrection,”
“Yields fear, which in turn causes remission (recovery),”
“...brings the personality ‘down to a lower level’ and so facilitates adjustment,”
“teaches the brain to resist seizures” which “dampens abnormally active brain circuits, stabilizing mood,”
“Depressed people often feel guilty, and ECT satisfies their need for punishment.”

The 2003 U.S. Mental Health Foundation ECT Fact Sheet states, “Shock damages the brain, causing memory loss and disorientation that creates an illusion that problems are gone, and euphoria, which is a frequently observed result of brain injury.”

In 2004, Dr. John Friedberg, a neurologist who has researched the effects of ECT for over 30 years, stated, “It is very hard to put into words just what shock treatment does to people generally.…it destroys people’s ambition, and…their vitality. It makes people rather passive and apathetic….Besides the amnesia, the apathy and the lack of energy is, in my view, the reason that…[psychiatrists] still get away with giving it.”

Dr. Colin Ross, a Texas psychiatrist, explains that existing ECT literature shows “there is a lot of brain damage, there is memory loss, the death rate does go up, the suicide rate doesn’t go down. [I]f those are the facts from a very well-designed, big study, then you’d have to conclude we shouldn’t do ECT.”

In a 1956 letter published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, ECT pioneer Lothar Kalinowsky admitted being privy to "personal communications on [ECT] fatalities which remain unpublished because of understandable fear of lawsuits." To paraphrase a well-known quote: “What they feared most has now happened to them.”

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights hails this major victory against psychiatry’s brutal treatments and acknowledges the persistence of Ms. Salters and attorney Mark Hardee. With case law now on the books, CCHR expects that such verdicts will soon become commonplace, followed by broad recognition by the legal system that psychiatrists who deliver ECT must be held accountable for the destruction that the “treatment” wreaks.

The Mainstream Media Stirs

An article in The Scotsman today (25th July ‘05) slams the treatment of depression as “not one of the triumphs of modern medicine.”

The article goes on to say: “Arguably it (the treatment of depresssion) portrays interventionism at its worst, and the medical practitioner at his least discerning. Profit-making by the pharmaceutical industry has dictated diagnosis and treatment of the disease for the last 13 years.”

Well done to The Scotsman for running with the story, but why is there so much silence still from so much of the mainstream media... and why did no mainstream media outlet at all run with it until Tom Cruise literally forced the issue onto them?

What is the matter with our mainstream media that they so shamelessly put their own self interest dictated by the advertising dollars of Big Pharma above the well-being of the public they claim to inform? They know the story, they have known for years.

One day in the not too distant future harsh questions are going to be asked of the mainstream media about their complicity in this horrific psychiatric/pharmaceutical scam.

Psychiatric Sexual Predator

Psychiatrist Lee Anderson has been found guilty of sexual and indecent assault of three female patients. The B.C. Supreme Court found Anderson guilty of the sexual crimes stretching over a 25 year period.

Ritalin/Concerta Dangers

An extract from an article by Dennis L. Cuddy, Ph.D.
July 11, 2005
I mentioned dangers associated with youth taking certain powerful drugs prescribed for mental health disorders. Since then, THE NEW YORK TIMES on July 1, 2005 published "Report of Ritalin Risks Prompts a Federal Study" relating that a U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory committee had just been "called to examine the most recent reports of adverse events among children taking Concerta, a long-acting form of Ritalin. The committee found nothing new or unusual about the reports, which included cases of children who had become psychotic and others who had developed heart problems....Among the mental side effects reported among children taking Concerta were hallucinations, thoughts of suicide, psychotic behaviors and aggression....The most common side effects of Ritalin, Concerta and similar drugs are appetite suppression, headaches, abdominal pain and sleep disturbances. Children who take these drugs chronically often weigh less and are shorter in stature as a result."

There is some good news in this area, though, as Rob Hotakainen and Melissa Lee in "New law: Schools can't force meds on kids" (Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, July 3, 2005) informed their readers that "as of Friday (July 1), schools no longer have the upper hand in deciding whether children should be given Ritalin or other controlled substances. A new federal law (Individuals With Disabilities in Education Act---IDEA) tilts that power to parents, banning states and schools from keeping students out of class in cases when parents disagree with a recommendation to medicate a child....Schools will have plenty of incentive to comply with the new law: Congress is threatening to block federal aid to schools that try to force medication on students against the wishes of their parents."

A Chronology of Anti-Depressant Warnings

It may not be widely known, but over the last two years there have been significant actions taken by regulatory agencies around the world to label, warn about and ban the drugs that psychiatrists are using to poison millions of children in the United States and around the world.  Yet the psychiatrists and the pharmaceuticals continue to produce, sell and inject them as fast as they can make a profit.
When one considers that the data on which these actions were taken was solely the studies done by psychiatrists in the pay of the pharmaceuticals, consider what an independent, outside study would reveal!
10 June 10 2003
The British Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency bans Paxil/Seroxat from use for people under the age of 18, after data emerged that there is an increase in self-harm and potentially suicidal behavior. The agency concluded that the potential benefit of the drug does not outweigh the risk.
15 July, 2003
Health Canada issues similar instructions not to prescribe Paxil to patients under 18. The maker of Paxil admitted that Paxil did not appear to work in children who were taking it. Reported adverse effects include suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts.
July 2003
France banned Paxil for use in children as well.
19 Sept 2003
The British Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announces a ban on Efexor (an SSRI) for Children, based on prior concealed evidence of some children becoming suicidal or homicidal taking SSRIs.
10 Dec 2003
The British MHRA ruled that SSRIs other than Prozac may not be prescribed to children. It also stated that Prozac helped only one child of 10. Prozac is to include in its labeling that it is “not recommended” for people under 18.
Early Feb 2004
Health Canada issues advisory to anyone under 18 taking one of seven antidepressants to consult with their doctors.” Canada mandated warnings for side effects such as hostility, aggression and “self-harm” on SSRIs and SNRIs (Serontonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors). The drugs are not approved for people under 18 in Canada, yet doctors used to prescribe them off-label.
18 October 2004
The FDA requires a black box warning on all antidepressants to warn against increased risk of suicidal behavior in children and adolescents, after studies indicated such an increased risk.
10 Dec 2004
The European Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) warned that there was an increased risk of suicidal behavior and thoughts with all SSRIs for children.
The British National Institute for Clinical Excellence called on doctors to exercise more caution in prescribing antidepressants.
9 Feb 2005
Health Canada instructs the manufacturer of Adderall XP (ADHD drug) to withdraw the drug from the Canadian market due to association of the drug with sudden deaths, heart-related deaths and strokes in children and adults.
26 Apr 2005
European Medicines Agency (EMEA) concludes that SSRIs and SNRIs are unfit for use on children and adolescents to treat depression. It further recommended including warnings in labeling of the drugs about the risks, including suicidal behavior and thoughts, aggression, hostility and anger in children and young adults.
1 July 2005
FDA advisory to rewrite labels for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder drugs containing methylphenidate (including Ritalin) about psychiatric side effects of those drugs.  The advisory came after review of reports including suicidal thoughts, aggression and depression. The FDA also made public a study that indicates an increased risk of cancer later in the life of a person taking Ritalin as achild.
1 July 2005
FDA issues a recommendation that adults prescribed anti-depressants should be closely scrutinized for increased suicidal tendencies and behavior, citing studies linking anti-depressants to suicide risk. The FDA posted on its website a notice of higher-than-expected rates of suicide attempts in research with Eli Lilly’s new antidepressant, Cymbalta.

Alert and Warning Against Ritalin

Sainsbury Backs Tom Cruise

Sainsbury Issues Alert and Warning Against Ritalin to UK Parents and backs Tom Cruise. Following Tom Cruise’s campaign over the past two weeks, Sebastian Sainsbury of the prestigious Sainsbury family issues a strong warning warning in Britain and an alert to all UK parents.

(PRWEB) July 17, 2005 -- Following Tom Cruise’s campaign over the past two weeks Sebastian Sainsbury of the prestigious Sainsbury family issues a strong warning warning in Britain and an alert to all UK parents.

Speaking to United National Newspapers today Sebastian Sainsbury stated the following this morning.

“As a parent of two young children, I hold an inherently responsible position for the welfare of my children. Following some of the recent media and speaking with other parents, I feel the need to extend that responsibility to encompass a wider sphere by informing parents of a situation that could potentially affect all children.”

“I’ve come across recent FDA warnings that I have found quite chilling. Ritalin, an amphetamine classified in the same category as cocaine, has been used for over four decades by psychiatrists and doctors, over much controversy and now the FDA comes up with black-box labels warning parents of side effects that include suicidal tendencies, hallucinations, aggression, violent actions, heart failure. The FDA has also recently issued black-box warnings on all anti-depressants both for children as well as adults.”

“We have all witnessed children being somewhat argumentative, perhaps a little boisterous and even disruptive at times. This would be described as poor behaviour, just as it has been described for centuries. However, these behavioural characteristics have been redefined by today’s psychiatrist as a mental disorder called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD.”

“ADHD was literally voted into existence eighteen years ago when the American Psychiatric Association (APA) by a show of hands. A show of hands was enough to see ADHD enshrined in the psychiatric textbook, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).     They also created ‘Reading Disorder’, Oppositional Defiance Disorder’, ‘Expressive Language Disorder’, ‘Mathematics Disorder’ and a litany of similarly ridiculous disorders by the same show of hands. The treatment for these disorders are drugs.”

“Psychiatrists are telling parents, whose children may be displaying poor behaviour, that their child has so-called ADHD due to a “chemical imbalance” in the brain. A parent would be prudent to ask the psychiatrist for evidence to support the claim of a “chemical imbalance”. If they did ask however, they’d find that the evidence would not be forthcoming – as it doesn’t exist.”

“Psychiatrist David Kaiser said, “Patients [have been diagnosed with ‘chemical imbalances’ despite the fact that no test exists to support such a claim, and…there is no real conception of what a correct chemical balance would look like.” The words of the President of the APA should also be noted. Mr Steven Sharfstein said, “We do not have a clean-cut lab test [to detect chemical imbalances in the brain.” How then would the psychiatrist know when the child has recovered?”

“Poor behaviour is empirical, but the purported cause for such behaviour is usurping the inherent rights of both the child and the parent. Environmental factors of the child need to be addressed rather than prescribing powerful psychiatric drugs on the basis of a subjective decision that is entirely unsubstantiated. Current figures from the Prescription Pricing Authority for England and Wales reveal that in 1991, the number of prescription items for psychiatric drugs commonly prescribed for children labelled with ADHD were 2000. In 2004, that figure had risen astronomically to 359,100. Remember, this is for a so-called “disorder” that has never been scientifically validated.”

“As with all problems in life, we pursue the avenues of knowledge open to us to find the solution. As far as poor childhood behaviour goes, parents want only the best for their child, a corollary of being a responsible parent, and will look high and low for those solutions. Consider this: a study carried out last year by Professor John Warner, Professor of Child Health at the University of Southampton, revealed the adverse reactions that food additives were having on behaviour. The incredibly talented Jamie Oliver has demonstrated through his series Jamie’s School Dinners that changing a child’s diet can bring about a desired change in behaviour. And educational psychologist Dr Madeleine Portwood has demonstrated that essential fatty acids, a natural organic product, produced improvements not only in childhood behaviour but in academic performance as well.”

“We are in the 21st Century, full of technological advancements that defy science. If however we consider the psychiatrist to be the custodian of poor behaviour, we are bowing to a profession that masquerades as technically advanced, but which in reality could be called nothing more than a pseudoscience at the behest of the pharmaceutical industry.”

“The ramifications of being a poorly behaved child in this contemporary society are too gruesome to comprehend.”

That Sainsbury family of which Sebastian Sainsbury is a member is one of Britain’s wealthiest and most respected families known for it patronage of the arts, and its commercial and political influence.

Mental Health Advocate Speaks Her Mind

Cruise went after psychiatry, drugs
Debbie Thurman
Family Mental Health Advocacy Monroe, VA.
Posted July 18 2005

I read Mark Hollis' story, "Florida mental health advocates go on offensive to protect patient rights," with interest. I am an advocate for patients, not the failing mental health system nor the pharmaceutical industry. The so-called advocates that Hollis quotes are in the latter category, making the headline for his story ring untrue.
Florida is one of the most notorious states in the Union when it comes to mental health and social abuses. Gov. Jeb Bush has a big mess on his hands, but like his brother in Washington, he is too much influenced by the big pharmaceutical lobby.
"`It's spooky to see the mentally ill being attacked on so many sides right now,' commented Kathleen Hale, president of the South Florida Mental Health Association."
What a bunch of hooey! Tom Cruise didn't attack Brooke Shields or mothers with postpartum depression, who are merely victims caught in Big Pharma's dragnet. Cruise attacked psychiatry and the drug industry. He has created a firestorm that has been long overdue in this country.
I cycled in and out of major depression -- including postpartum depression after the birth of both children -- for a decade; I don't speak in a vacuum. I caution those experiencing depression to be wary of doctors who want to prescribe deadly Molotov cocktails of psychiatric drugs and then cite the withdrawal symptoms when patients want to come off as proof they need more drugs.
I applaud the Florida Legislature for taking a stand against the federal move to turn our schools into mental health clinics, in accordance with the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. Freedom? Ha! When the people stand up and declare they will no longer be misled and drugged into submission by Big Brother, the momentum of the war will have shifted to the right side.

Thanks Tom Cruise

Dr. Peter Breggin: Thanks Tom Cruise

Dr. Peter Breggin
Sun Jul 17, 1:27 PM ET

On June 25, July 2005 Tom Cruise did the unthinkable on TV. Actually, he did several “unthinkables” in a filmed interview with NBC’s Matt Lauer for the Today Show.

First, Tom stopped smiling. He deprived us of that multi-million dollar grin and got serious. For a star to do this to the American public was unthinkable.

Second, Tom pointed out that Matt Lauer actually was very “glib” (shallow) and didn’t know what he was talking about. He also urged Matt to be “more responsible” and to learn something about psychiatry before touting it. For a star to do this to a media personality was unthinkable. Since nearly all of them are shallow, this was a threat of potentially epidemic proportions. Suppose other guests began pointing out that media hosts don’t know what they are talking about and are shallow?

Third, he got serious about one of the most important issues in our personal lives, in this case our widespread use of psychiatric drugs to solve our personal distress and anguish. Tom concluded, “I’m passionate about life.” For anyone to speak this way on television, except perhaps on the Catholic channel, is truly beyond the TV pale; and even the Catholic channel doesn’t criticize psychiatry.

Fourth, he criticized psychiatry and drew attention to its genuine flaws and failings. I suspect he’s actually read my book, Toxic Psychiatry. Tom said that psychiatry had a long history of abusing people, including electroshock. He said, “There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance.” He said that antidepressants can only “mask the problem” and that “these drugs are very dangerous.” He called psychiatry a “pseudoscience” and suggested that there are better approaches. He was right about all of this.

A few days later NBC invited me to New York City as a psychiatric expert to discuss the Tom Cruise affair on the Today Show, and when I began by saying it sounded like Tom had been doing some serious reading about psychiatry, I got cut off, again and again, throughout the show.

Why was the media both drawn into the story and shocked by it? It was too good a story to simply ignore: “Tom Cruise Gone Wild” was the theme. It should have been, “Tom Cruise gets serious.”

The media would have liked to attack Tom on the grounds that he’s a Scientologist. Scientologists seem to share a number of views about psychiatry with me, including everything Tom said. In fact, I’d go further. Modern biological psychiatry is a materialistic religion masquerading as a science.
How can I say that my profession of psychiatry is a materialistic religion? Because modern psychiatry makes believe that psychological and spiritual problems, such as anxiety and depression, are caused by mechanical failures in the physical brain, and because psychiatry then attempts to correct these psychological and spiritual problems with physical interventions such as drugs and electroshock. Modern biological psychiatry takes these views and implements these interventions on faith and it has won a lot of converts with the help of billion-dollar marketing campaigns. If you want more detailed analyses of the faith and fake science behind the claims of modern psychiatry, you’ll find them in my books such as Toxic Psychiatry (1991), Brain-Disabling Treatments in Psychiatry (1997), Talking Back to Ritalin (Revised, 2001), the Antidepressant Fact Book (2001) and the Ritalin Fact Book (2002). You can find my scientific papers on my website, In my books and on the website you’ll also find discussions of the many drug-free alternatives that are available for helping people with problems such as anxiety and depression.

The media kept hinting that the problem was Tom’s Scientology beliefs but they didn’t want to say it. To some extent it’s not politically correct to criticize someone’s religion, especially when people like Tom and John Travolta are members. But that was really not the issue. The media is afraid of Scientology because the religion has been extremely aggressive toward media critics, often charging them or threatening to charge them with libel and slander.

I was also invited on to CNBC’s the Donny Deutche talk show. This time I remained in Ithaca, New York only a few blocks from my office in a high tech TV studio. I was kept waiting in front of the live camera for almost an hour and a half to get a word in as I watched Tom get excoriated. Although I could see the show on the uplink for this entire time as I sat waiting at any moment to be called upon, they decided not to link me into the show at all and I never got to say a thing in Tom’s defense or in criticism of biological psychiatry, drugs and electroshock. Sitting upright that long without twitching in anticipation of momentarily appearing on millions of televisions was hard enough, but listening to Donny was worse.

While I sat listening to the CNBC show that I was never brought onto, I felt a mixture of outrage and sadness. Outrage that the show host Donny Deutche bragged up his work in advertising where he helped to produce the Zoloft TV ads with their clever little bouncing faces that made the antidepressant so much more “accessible,” in his words, to millions of Americans. Donny was bragging about an actual fraud—ads that falsely suggest that Zoloft corrects biochemical imbalances and that leave out the warning that the drug causes mania, not to mention psychosis, violence and suicide.

What was tragic? Donny’s guest was Jane Pauley who was flogging her new book, Out of the Blue. Jane is the epitome of a media personality, having anchored the Today Show with Tom Brokaw and Bryant Gumbel, and having earned many broadcast awards. Jane is also a promoter of psychiatry. She admitted to having developed “hypomanic” (milder than full-blown mania) symptoms on an antidepressant. At the time, she explained, her mind and thoughts were racing and she couldn’t control them. But then she added that of course the drug didn’t make her become manic; the drug just “brought out” her underlying or pre-existing bipolar disorder.

Of course, I don’t know anything about Jane Pauley except what she’s told us and she’s not really the issue. Celebrities are actively recruited by marketing departments to promote medical and psychiatric treatments. I do know that psychiatrists often lie to patients to protect themselves and their drugs. My colleagues lie by saying the antidepressant merely “brought out” their mania, psychosis, violence or depression, rather than the drug caused it in the otherwise innocent victim. Jane Pauley thinks she is a victim of bipolar disorder when she sounds to me like a victim of psychiatry.
It’s no small matter to falsely inform a person that their drug-induced mania shows they have bipolar disorder. It results in a false diagnosis and a stigmatizing label (bipolar or manic-depressive disorder) that follows people for the rest of their lives. It leads to additional medications, often including antipsychotic drugs like Zyprexa and Risperdal that can cause lethal diabetes and pancreatitis, and tardive dyskinesia, a potentially disfiguring and disabling neurological disorder characterized by bizarre-looking abnormal movements.

So the media personalities had a feast promoting their religion, psychiatry, while Tom Cruise got hammered for criticizing psychiatry, and indirectly promoting his religion, Scientology.

No, I’m not a Scientologist. Except when they occasionally say hello to me at conferences, I have hardly spoken to a Scientologist in more than thirty years. But when I saw Tom’s bravery come out from behind his marvelous smile, I wanted to help, and I made clear I wanted to defend him.

Well, Tom, you said on TV things I’ve been saying in the media and in my books and scientific articles for three decades—but boy did you generate a lot more attention to the issues. Thanks!

Press Release re Psychiatry

Since Hollywood phenom, Tom Cruise, has stepped to the plate battling psychiatry, questions have been asked as to the validity of the field. But, is there really a risk? Should I really be concerned with my kids being on psychiatric drugs?

Psychiatrists claim the attacks are completely unfounded. While we can all ask the opinion of anyone we’d like, the truth is that the only way to solve this debate is with hard evidence. In all fairness, that would be the proper way to resolve this.

So, let’s review a couple of facts:

- PSYCHIATRIC DRUGS CARRY BLACK WARNING LABELS. Not warning labels that you might get a stomach ache. Nor the other familiar warning labels of possible drowsiness. On the other hand, psychiatric drugs carry a black warning label warning of possible suicide risks. That is, your kid may go out an hang himself if you put him on these drugs. Is that really a risk worth taking?

And while we aren’t looking for opinion here, it may be worth asking that exact question to the parents of Matt Miller. – the young boy who, in 2001, hung himself in his bedroom closet; just one week after being prescribed anti-depressant drugs.

Or, we could ask the parents of Raymond Perrone or Brad Eckstein two other children who both hung themselves while in the throes of withdrawal from a prescribed stimulant. Or, we could ask the question to the hundreds of other parents who have lost children to these psychiatric drugs.

- HOMICIDAL TENDENCIES. As though that isn’t enough, school shootings have practically become an annual occurance; and yes, in most cases they too are on psychiatric, mind-altering drugs. Such as Eric Harris who went on a killing spree in Columbine Colorado, killing 12 students, a teacher and wounding 23 others.

We could also take the example of Kip Kinkel, 14, who killed 2 and injured 22 after opening fire at his Springfield, Oregon, high school in 1998. He too was on psychiatric drugs when committing this act.

- LUDICROUS DIAGNOSIS. Psychiatrists base their diagnosis off of a book known as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). This book contains such classifications as “Caffeine-Related Disorder” (can be found on page 212 of this book); “Mathematics Disorder” (can be found on page 50 of this book); “Expressive Language Disorder” (can be found on page 55 of this book); or even “Disorder of Written Expression” (which can be found on page 51 of this book). ANY of these “diseases” are cause, per the Diagnostics and Statistical Manual for a person to be put on powerful, mind-altering psychiatric drugs.

Okay, we don’t need to belabor the point. But, let’s face it, is this really a risk worth taking? When I was growing up, I don’t remember reading in the history books about the children shooting up their schools or going to their bedrooms and hanging themselves. In fact, I don’t remember reading about psychiatry then either. Coincidence? We seemed to get along just fine without psychiatrists then, what makes it so necessary now?

Another Deviant Psychiatrist

Psychiatrist William Ayres, past president of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry has reached a confidential settlement with a former patient.

Ayres had molested the child when he was a 13 years old patient. The settlement was submitted to San Mateo County Presiding Judge George Miriam and was confirmed by the attorney for the victim. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Psychiatry Takes Over

Lifted from the Salt Lake Tribune yesterday. :-o)
Psychiatry takes over

The debate about psychiatry having no science to back it up certainly makes for some interesting reading. But I can't imagine why psychiatrists are so touchy about all this.

Years ago they got the government to decree that they were the only ones who understood and know how to fix mental problems, so we could all stop wasting time finding solutions. They've done such a good job the public is wildly enthusiastic, the proof being that every citizen in America wants a psychiatrically rehabilitated criminal moving in next door. Their success with child molesters and rapists is legendary. We all want one dating our daughter and teaching our kids.
In the last 40 years, psychiatry-directed learning models have taken our school systems to new levels of achievement and safety.

Employers everywhere are looking for people who have achieved the level of honesty, competence and social grace which mind-altering drugs bestow. Taxpayers cheer the wise use of excess budget dollars which support all this for our benefit.

Altruism lives. Somewhere. I hope.

CCHR Release re Psych Drugs

From PrudentPressAgency
FDA Alert On Violence and Suicide-Inducing Stimulants
By Prudent Press Agency
The Food and Drug Administration says that “ADHD” stimulants cause visual hallucinations, aggression, violent and suicidal behavior.

Since the 1980s, Citizens Commission on Human Rights has exposed the dangers of stimulants such as Ritalin prescribed for the psychiatric invention, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). For years psychiatry has promoted the notion of a “chemical imbalance” to prescribe psychiatric drugs to over eight million schoolchildren - a $1 billion dollar a year industry - despite the fact that no medical or scientific test has ever validated psychiatry’s theories about chemical imbalances. Medical experts say there is no evidence that ADHD exists as a physical, neurobiological disease and that prescribing cocaine-like stimulants for something that cannot be physically diagnosed is child abuse.

The FDA finally ordered labeling changes to methylphenidate [Ritalin] products, including Concerta to warn that these drugs can cause “psychiatric events.” These are described as “visual hallucinations, suicidal ideation, psychotic behavior, as well as aggression or violent behavior.”

Bruce Wiseman, president of CCHR in the U.S., says, “Parents have been denied information on these dangerous suicide and violence-inducing drug side effects for years, unwittingly placing their children at risk. The public awareness raised in the media recently about these and other psychiatric drugs and Congressional Hearings into why such information has been withheld, may finally mean that parents will be able to make truly informed decisions about protecting their children's health, instead of being further victimized by psychiatry's smoke-and-mirrors history of fraud and deceit."

Psychiatric Sex Abuse

A Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA psychiatrist, Dr. Michael Larson, is under investigation for having an intimate relationship with a female patient.

The North Carolina Medical Board is also investigating other sexual improprieties committed by Larson.

More Merck Deceit

Further deceit by the pharmaceutical giant Merck has come to light.

Whilst publicly denying any link between Vioxx and heart problems Merck was working frantically behind the scenes to try to solve the problem. Its researchers were trying to reformulate Vioxx in 2000 to reduce its cardiovascular side effects at the same time as it was informing the regulators and the media that no cardiovascular side effects existed.

Just like the side effects from its psychotropic drugs that it still denies exist.

Strike at the Root

Benedetto Saraceno is director of the department of mental health and substance abuse at the World Health Organization’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. She says that a three decade long study by the WHO has found that people with schizophrenia typically do far better in poorer nations than in developed nations, and that strong family support is often more effective than advanced drug treatments.

Glendale, California -- (ArriveNet - Jul 09, 2005) --

The recent media on Tom Cruise exposing psychiatric pseudo-science has been great.

I have seen firsthand how psychiatry damages people.

My wife was once a poster woman of good health and vitality. In fact she was running to the mailbox at the end of our very steep driveway when she took a fall while I was out of town.

A neighbor made a call, somehow getting the police and everybody involved. She was taken to a hospital.

I landed at six the next morning and went directly to see her. Even though she had only suffered bruises, I found her totally unconscious; lips sealed, eyes closed.

I said, “What’s going on here.” But nobody would talk. They just skirted the issue and gave pills and drugs.

Nobody talked to me. I never got the psychiatric diagnosis until months later.

The psychiatrist had labeled her with a bogus psychiatric diagnosis, held her in the hospital and would not release her. She was drugged to a vegetative state. The drugs were diminishing, demoralizing and made her a non-entity. She didn’t know who she was, didn’t know where she was, or why she was there. There was nothing wrong with her to begin with. But she has suffered greatly from the “care” given her by psychiatrists, who are nothing more than glorified “pill-givers.”

Psychiatric Services

A psyhciatric hospital in California (Atascadero State Hospital) is being investigated for over-medicating patients, over-use of restraints, and for the rape of a female patient. Why are they picking on that psych hospital is the question that needs to be asked?

Regaining Control of Your Life Using the Mental Health Services

Wayne B Hower, 44, was the pride of the Kitsap mental health Services. He was featured in their annual report highlighting their successful treatments.

“Through medication, counseling and self-work Wayne has regained control of his life” said the glowing testimonial.

Now Hower has been arrested and charged in Bremerton, Washington with first-degree murder for the shooting death of a convenience store owner.

Psychiatrist Struck Off

UK Psychiatrist Dr Patrick Cosgrove who diagnosed ADHD and prescribed psychotropic drugs to minors without even speaking to them has been ‘struck off’ the register of medical practitioners.

Zoloft Suicide

In 2002 Shyra Marie Kallas wanted treatment for her warts. On the medical questionaire that she was asked to fill out she mentioned that she felt overwhelmed with her schoolwork. 15 year old Shyra Marie Kallas walked out with a prescription for Zoloft. After taking the psychotropic drug she committed suicide.

A federal judge in Salt Lake City is now seeking information from the FDA as to whether they already knew at that time in 2002 that Zoloft caused suicides. Unsurprisingly Pfizer is seeking to have the case dismissed.

Psychiatrist Defrauds Medicaid

Maryland psychiatrist James An Nguyen has been found guilty of charges relating to the fraudulent billing of Medicaid for $1,700,000-.
Nguyen aged 69 was sentenced to five years jail.

Psychiatry-A Criminal Cult

It is hard to keep up with all the psych convictions around the world at the moment. I have never had so many articles coming my way. The lid has been blown off the world of psychiatry since Tom Cruise had the courage to broach the subject on national television.

After the predictable mainstream media froth and frenzy (big advertising dollars from the Pharma/Psych alliance) the voice of the people is coming through loud and clear. Even a UK newspaper group has come out in a leader today in support of Cruise and in support of exposing the fraud of psychiatry. The genie is out of the bottle and it cannot be corked up again. The criminal psychs are going down.

Dr John Read "Models of Madness"

'In the vast majority of cases for diagnoses of schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, sexual dysfunction and attention deficit disorder, the causes will be primarily social,' says Dr John Read, clinical psychologist at the University of Auckland and editor of the book, Models of Madness.

Dr Read, who has worked for 20 years with people diagnosed with schizophrenia and studied the relationship between life events and hallucinations and delusions, says that for the last 30 years there has been a growing dependence on medication and a decreasing willingness among mental health professionals to simply ask people what has gone on in their lives.

'Whenever you have been able to establish a decent relationship with a patient they will tell you their life history,' says Read, 'and more often than not, it has got some fairly horrendous things in it. The patients usually believe that there is a link between what has gone on in their life and the difficulties they have.'

Child abuse, for example, is very strongly related to depression and suicide. A New Zealand survey of several thousand people showed that women who had been sexually abused as children were 20 times more likely to kill themselves as adults than people who hadn't been sexually abused. Worryingly, when researchers interviewed people using mental-health services, they found that only 20 per cent of them who had been abused in childhood had been identified as having such a history by the services.

'At the moment,' says Dr Read, 'we have got this whole movement pushed partly by the drugs companies and partly by some sectors of psychiatry arguing that depression, for example, is really some kind of illness which is genetic and primarily biological. I'm afraid it's just plain wrong. The research that claims that these are genetic disorders is very, very weak methodologically. Because something runs in families does not prove that it's genetic. If you grow up as a child and both your mum and dad are depressed, that in itself is very depressing.'

Just because medication is able to shift chemical processes back to normal in someone who is depressed, it does not prove that the depression was a biological event, he says. 'It's like saying that Aspirin works for headaches and headaches are caused by a lack of Aspirin in the body.'

While people will find comfort in labels, Read argues that they are ultimately damaging. If a child has been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, for example, it disguises the causes of the problem that need to be addressed if the child and family are going to find a solution. 'If a child is having a problem, 90 per cent of the time you can guarantee that the family needs some help. It's become almost a taboo issue to talk about families driving people mad or causing depression. That's a shame because it gets in the way of families getting the help that they need.'

Not all agree with Dr Read. Robin Murray is professor of psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry and a consultant psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital in south London. He says: 'What we know is that these disorders on the whole are an interaction between one's vulnerability and social adversity. In the last few years there have been a number of genes that have been discovered which don't cause the illness, they just make one more vulnerable. My view is that the people who believe these are just brain diseases are wrong and the people who say they are just social conditions are equally blinkered. ' n

Psychiatric Bile

To the so called medical professionals who write diatribes against my anti-psychotropic drug postings I decided to post this Blog which I lifted directly from the FDA website five minutes ago.
FDA Public Health Advisory
Suicidality in Adults Being Treated with Antidepressant Medications

Several recent scientific publications suggest the possibility of an increased risk for suicidal behavior in adults who are being treated with antidepressant medications. Even before these reports became available, the FDA began a complete review of all available data to determine whether there is an increased risk of suicidality (suicidal thinking or behavior) in adults being treated with antidepressant medications. It is expected that this review will take a year or longer to complete. In the meantime, FDA is highlighting that:
Adults being treated with antidepressant medications, particularly those being treated for depression, should be watched closely for worsening of depression and for increased suicidal thinking or behavior. Close watching may be especially important early in treatment, or when the dose is changed, either increased or decreased. Adults whose symptoms worsen while being treated with antidepressant drugs, including an increase in suicidal thinking or behavior, should be evaluated by their health care professional.

These recommendations are consistent with existing warnings for treated adults in the approved labeling (package insert) for antidepressant medications that can be found at: The Healthcare Professional and Patient Information Sheets for the antidepressant indications will be updated to add this information within the week. A list of drugs to be included in this update can be found at:

FDA is working closely with the manufacturers of all marketed antidepressants to fully evaluate the risk of suicidality in adults treated with these drugs. The FDA has asked these manufacturers to identify all placebo-controlled trials conducted in adults in their development programs for their antidepressant products, regardless of the indication studied, and to provide information from these trials to FDA. Manufacturers are being asked to use a similar approach to assembling this information as was used in evaluating the risk of suicidality in placebo-controlled trials in pediatric patients treated with antidepressant medications. The method used to analyze the data for risk of suicidality in children using antidepressant medications is described in more detail at the following web page: A similar approach will be used for adults.

FDA’s comprehensive review will involve many hundreds of individual clinical trials and many thousands of adult patients. It is expected that this review will require a year or more to complete because of the large number of trials and the thousands of adverse events that must be checked for possible evidence of suicidality. The FDA will make the results of its review available to the public once its analyses are complete, and will update this advisory in the meantime if more definitive information becomes available.

Ritalin Debacle Worsens

Ritalin, the psychotropic drug inflicted upon children suffering from the made up disorder "ADHD" has new warnings out about its safety. A routine review of Ritalin showed more reports of children disturbed by the drug than had been originally expected.

Some behaviours include suicidal thoughts, hallucinations and violent behavior. The FDA is making further investigations.

To encourage children to swallow psychotropic drugs is a crime against humanity.

Chemical Imbalance of the Brain?

The following release was lifted from It was too good to miss so I hope no one objects.

In an explosive admission, American psychiatric Association President Steven Sharfstein did a 180-degree turnaround from his TODAY show interview (June 27) and admitted that there is no way to test for a "chemical imbalance" as the cause for mental disorders. PEOPLE magazine (July 11), quoted Dr. Sharfstein conceding, "We do not have a clean-cut lab test."

Dr. Sharfstein is not alone. Elliot Valenstein, Ph.D. says, "[T]here are no tests available for assessing the chemical status of a living person's brain." The late Dr. Loren Mosher stated, "…there are no external validating criteria for psychiatric diagnoses."

In 2004, psychiatrist M. Douglas Mar debunked the theory that brain scans can help diagnose mental diseases stating, "There is no scientific basis for these claims [of using brain scans for psychiatric diagnosis]."

Harvard University professor, Joseph Glenmullen, author of "Prozac Backlash," said the questionnaires of symptoms used to "diagnose" depression "may look scientific," but "are utterly subjective measures."

"But unfortunately, the tragedy in this misinformation campaign has been the children who have been pegged with these invented illnesses and given life-destroying drugs," said Marla Filidei, VP of CCHR International. "We've seen hundreds of cases where children's lives have been destroyed as a result of these labels."

Ten-year-old Shaina Dunkle collapsed and died from toxic levels of the psychiatric drug she was prescribed. "Shaina looked into my eyes as her life ended and I could do nothing to save her. It's been two years and I relive those last few minutes every day. Believe me, it is a nightmare no parent should ever have to live with, said Mrs. Vicki Dunkle.

At age 7, Matthew Smith was diagnosed with ADHD. His parents were told he needed to take a stimulant to help him focus and that non-compliance could bring criminal charges for neglecting their son's educational and emotional needs. The parents acceded to the pressure and put Matthew on a psychiatric drug and on March 21, 2000, while skateboarding, Matthew suffered a heart attack and died from the effects of the drug. "I cannot go back and change things for us at this point. However, I hope to God my story and information will reach will reach the hearts and minds of many families, so they can make an educated decision," said Mr. Smith.

"It is a monumental injustice to these families," said Filidei. "Psychiatrists must be held accountable for these horrific crimes."

By their own admission, psychiatrists cannot cure. Norman Sartorius, President of the World Psychiatric Association from 1996-1999 concluded that "the time when psychiatrists considered that they could cure the mentally ill is gone. In the future the mentally ill have to learn to live with their illness."

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights has been documenting the truth behind psychiatry's lies for 36 years. "You wouldn't allow a nuclear scientist to mess around with atomic fission if he couldn't define an atom. So we shouldn't allow psychiatrists to treat with powerful behavior-altering drugs that they cannot even define or prove the cause of," stated Jan Eastgate, CCHR's international president.

Dr. William Glasser

According to Dr. William Glasser's book, "Warning: Psychiatry Can Be Dangerous To Your Mental Health", psychotropic medications are only 50 to 60% effective, and placebos are 47 to 50% effective.

So sugar pills are as effective as Prozac or Risperdal etc plus they don't cause you to suicide or go on killing rampages.
